Learn while teaching

The saying goes “You learn something new every day”. Well, in Fiji there are heaps to learn, from the ancient traditions of the past, to modern-day culture in Fiji. Interesting facts and stories can be found in the homes of locals you reside with. As you teach and share your skills, allow the locals to share intriguing information about the traditions and practises of their past and present with you. A win-win experience!

Blessed with summer almost all-year-around, Fiji is an ideal place to kick-start your volunteer adventure. Being able to volunteer in a warm, tropical country will give you the chance to cover lots more ground and explore the different islands and experiences whilst contributing to Fijian communities.

Live like a Fijian

When in Fiji, do as the locals do! Very often when volunteers arrive in Fiji, they are assigned homes within local villages and communities where they live for the duration of their Fiji volunteer holiday. They are ‘adopted’ into various homes and learn to eat, sleep, and breathe all things Fijian. This is an enriching experience as it develops an appreciation for the culture and people around you. Tucking into delicious Fijian meals around a dinner table of ten or catching open-air buses are a few of the best local experiences you can have.

Best of Both Worlds - City and Rural Living

If you're on the larger islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, cities, villages and towns are all within a few hours travel which gives travellers a chance to experience the best of both worlds! Travel from villages along the Coral Coast and visit Suva or Nadi, only 2 hours away. Many volunteers in Vanua Levu choose to spend their weekends off exploring Labasa or Savusavu. If you’re in the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands you can choose to catch the daily ferry back to Nadi or book yourself into a nearby resort as a special treat.
