Once you touchdown in Nadi, head to the immigration desk where Fijian serenaders ease you into holiday mode with island tunes as you wait your turn in line. Then simply present your passport, completed passenger arrival card, and if needed, your visa.
Many countries like Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and more than 100 other countries can enter Fiji visa-free.
After getting your passport stamped, head downstairs to collect your bags at the carousels. There are baggage trolleys and toilet facilities nearby for your convenience and duty-free shopping at Tappoos and Prouds stores where you can pick up tax-free alcohol and chocolate.
In case of missing or damaged luggage, talk to the friendly staff at the onsite Baggage Claim Desk. They’ll require a detailed description of your luggage, contact information and delivery address to issue a file reference number, either at the airport or via phone.
As an island nation with a delicate ecosystem, Fiji has strict biosecurity laws to protect against harmful pests and diseases that might be hiding in seemingly harmless products.
Your passenger arrival card will ask you to declare specific things like food, animal products, equipment used with animals or on farms or used outdoors equipment like hiking gear. Please note that currently poultry products from Australia and honey are strictly prohibited from entering Fiji. For detailed list of animal products and other items to declare, read more here.
If you’re unsure about anything mentioned on the passenger arrival card, declare it anyway. Not doing so may attract a hefty FJD$400 fine or the possibility of legal action.
For further information, you can also contact the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji on (679) 3312 512 or email info@baf.com.fj
If you’re hopping between different regions in Fiji and don’t want to take bulky suitcases or boards along everywhere, there’s secure luggage storage in the Arrivals area. It is located on the left as you clear the Biosecurity area (look out for the ‘Left Luggage’ sign).
Items Stored | Cost as of Jan 2024 (FJD) |
---|---|
Bikes, Boards, Oversized Luggage | $15 per item / per day |
Suitcases & Backpacks | $10.05 per item / per day |
Day Bags, Carry-on Bags and other Hand-Held Luggage | $7.50 per item / per day |
You’ll need to pay for the total storage days upfront in Fiji dollars so make sure to withdraw some money beforehand. Opening hours are 5am-10pm daily.
From taxis and buses to hotel shuttles and private airport transfers, there are several transportation options available at Nadi Airport. However, ride share options like Lyft and Uber are not yet available in Fiji.
Taxis |
Yellow taxis are located outside the Arrivals Hall. They are an ideal option for short travel to hotels around Nadi and Denarau. These taxis are metered with a flag-fall of FJD$7.50 so ensure the meter is turned on and you have Fiji dollars handy for payment before heading off. |
Public Buses |
Several air-conditioned public buses stopover at the Nadi Airport outside the Departure Terminal. They run several times a day between Lautoka and Suva stopping at major towns and resorts along the way. To travel on a local bus, you can buy disposable e-ticketing cards at the Vodafone outlet in the Arrivals Terminal. In general, travel to any point between Nadi and Suva by bus will cost less than FJD$25. If you’re travelling and have exhausted your credit, simply top up your disposable card at any Vodafone outlet. Any balance remaining on your disposable e-ticket card will be refunded to you in cash at a Vodafone retail or authorized agent outlet. Simply present your disposable cards and a valid ID to get a refund before the card expires (30 days after being issued). |
Airport Transfers |
Both private and shared transfer options are available if you book at least 24 hrs ahead. Visit the transfer desks at the airport (Tourist Transport Fiji (TTF), Rosie Holidays, Tour Managers, Tewaka, Sunny Tours, Go Local Tours), and show your booking confirmation to receive your ticket. They can also accommodate walk-ins if there is space availability in their fleet on the day. Transfers can also be booked with companies based outside the airport. They will arrive before your flight lands and wait in the allocated carpark transfer pickups. The driver will have placard with your name on it to help identify them. |
Hotel Transfers |
Some hotels around Nadi provide a complimentary airport shuttle to and from the hotel while others provide this service at an extra fee. Check with your hotel ahead of your arrival to confirm. |
Wheelchair Access Vehicle |
|
For the ultimate freedom to explore Fiji at your own pace there are several reputable rental car companies like Avis, Thrifty, Budget and Hertz that operate from Nadi Airport. Normal opening hours are 5am – 10pm unless there is an earlier or delayed flight. Book ahead, especially during peak travel season when rental cars get booked up.
Vehicles in Fiji are right-hand drives, use left lanes and the national speed limit is 80km/hr (49miles/hr) on the highway.
Currency exchange bureaus and ATMs can be found in the Arrivals terminal to easily access Fijian Dollars. ATMs have a FJD$2000 daily withdrawal limit if you use an ATM in Fiji.
Most resorts and activities accept credit cards (with a 3% surcharge) but you’ll need cash for public transportation like buses and taxies, supermarkets and markets and retail stores and some local restaurants. If you think you’ll require Fijian dollars and are headed to a remote area or island, this might be the most convenient place to access it.
Nadi Airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout the terminals, you can use it for up to 2 hours or 1GB of data (whichever you use up first). If you need more data, you can purchase 30 minutes or 200MB for $7FJD from the Secure Your Bag area in the Departures terminal.
Purchase local SIM cards at the Vodafone or Digicel outlets in the Arrivals Hall by presenting your passport. Both vendors offer free SIMs with various data packages to meet your internet needs. Both outlets are open from 5am-10pm daily.
There’s also the option to recharge and subscribe to a local mobile data package by dialling *555# - a great option if you don’t want to rely on the resort Wi-Fi.
For all other enquiries, consult the friendly staff at the Airport Information Desk as you exit the Biosecurity into the Arrivals Hall.
