As Fiji’s national museum, it exists to collect, care for and share its 10,000+ object, textile, flatwork, archaeology, natural history and archival/photographic collection, and through them, tell a story about Fiji’s history. It was established with the specific purpose of creating a national cultural facility to both protect and preserve Fiji’s cultural heritage as well as create a space for the public to engage with and appreciate the nation’s rich and diverse heritage.
The museum works hard to contribute to the wider culture and heritage sector in Fiji and actively partners with key agencies nationally, regionally and internationally.
The national museum can be found in the Thurston Gardens on Cakobau Road. Open 7 days a week, hours of operation are 9.00am-4.30pm (Monday-Wednesday & Friday-Sunday) and 9.00am-7.00pm (Thursday).
