Explore Fiji’s Natural Beauty

Fiji is chock-full of adventures where you can enjoy nature without harming it. Discover ways to experience Fiji's natural beauty without impacting the environment.

Hiking

Hiking

Swap Fiji’s stunning beaches for a few days of inland exploration on our larger islands.  With no venomous predators, snakes or spiders, your biggest worries will be the heat and terrain so cover up and take lots of water.  True adventurers can join a multi-day cross-island hike with Talanoa Treks led by local guides and hosted overnight in remote villages. And for shorter hikes and epic vistas, Nadi’s rolling hinterland and the Yasawa islands’ craggy peaks never disappoint. Find Fiji’s best hikes and walks

Birdwatching

With 166 species of birds (including 35 endemics), Fiji is a great place to test your observation and identification skills, cross rare birds off your ‘life list’ and immerse yourself in beautiful, natural landscapes.

For the best birdwatching opportunities in Fiji, head to bird hotspots like Taveuni, Kadavu and parts of Viti Levu like the Colo-I-Suva Rainforest Park.  Keep an eye out for endemics like the musk parrots, orange or golden fruit dove, Fiji silktail or the elusive red-throated lorikeet.  Local NGO Nature Fiji-Mareqeti Viti, helps conserve Fiji’s unique habitats and wildlife.  Contact them for detailed information on the best bird-watching areas in Fiji and knowledgeable local guides.

Waterfalls

Waterfalls

Escape the tropical heat with a rejuvenating plunge beneath Fiji’s incredible waterfalls. Fiji boasts an abundance of cascades, but Taveuni’s mist-covered peaks, forest-draped slopes and small size make it a waterfall-hopping dream.  Visit Tavoro’s triple cascades, whiz down Waitavala’s natural waterslide or stroll the 5km Lavena Coastal Walk to Wainibau waterfall. Viti Levu also boasts several waterfall gems including Biausevu (Coral Coast), Savulelele (Suncoast) and more remote falls in the island’s rugged interior which you can visit with Domoika Adventures or Namosi Eco Retreat. Surfing (and other board sports)

Surfing

Cloudbreak may have put Fiji on the surfing map, but surf lovers will find heaps of other reasons to love Fiji’s oceanic playground. This notorious left-hand break – along with a handful of other excellent waves for all skill levels – is located in the southern Mamanuca islands. But you’ll also find world-class breaks like Frigates off Pacific Harbour and the Coral Coast. And when the surf’s not pumping, there are plenty of other spots to foil, SUP or kiteboard (during the windy season) to your heart’s content. Check out these reasons to add Fiji to your surf bucket list and start planning an epic surf trip.

Sea-Kayaking

Sea-kayaking

Fiji’s island chains are a sea kayaking paradise. Tamarillo Active Travel has been running sea kayaking expeditions in Kadavu since 1998, offering year-round, multi-day adventures that hop between stunning beaches. Along the way you can also opt to snorkel, fish, hike, and dive on the world-famous Great Astrolabe Reef. These private, guided tours (for 2-14 people) come with all the essentials, including a support boat to carry your gear, yummy picnic lunches and overnight stays in cozy eco-resorts.

Southern Sea Ventures multi-day sea kayaking tours in the Yasawa Islands are shaped by the seasonal winds and currents. On this island-hopping adventure you could camp on the beach or stay in cozy village homestays, snorkel and picnic off remote beaches, swim in sea caves or with manta rays (May-October). Every day brings a new adventure.

Snorkeling or Scuba Diving

Snorkeling

Fiji’s technicolor coral reefs, and vibrant marine life make it a must-visit for snorkellers and scuba enthusiasts alike. But what really sets Fiji apart is its diverse dive experiences (shark and manta dives) plus from world-class locations like the Great White Wall to remote reefs explored on liveaboards like the Nai’a. And with warm waters year-round (averaging 23–27°C/73–81°F), it’s perfect for divers of all levels.

Fiji’s established dive industry is top-notch and easily accessible to travellers across the islands, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro. You can even dive deeper into your passion with an underwater photography course from Wanderlust Fiji Dive Adventures. Read more about Fjii’s best dive regions.
